Mailing to Spam Traps and the consequenses
1.) What are spam traps?
A spam trap is an e-mail address that does not belong to a real person, even though it looks like it. There are so-called "honeypots" in the internet to recognize and punish spammers. If an email is written to such an address, it is clear that this did not happen with the consent of the recipient, because there is none. In that case, the domain and the IP address of the sender´s email address will be reported to a blacklist. A large number of email servers have subscribed to such blacklists and as a result no emails are being accepted from this domain or IP anymore. An example of such a blacklist is UCEPROTECT®-Network.
2.) What are the consequences for e-mail delivery with contentbird?
Basically, the use of the contentbird Outreach function is at your own risk. If you have written to a spam trap, we will be notified by our email service provider mailgun, because this violates their and also our terms of use and may lead to a termination.
3.) What about e-mail addresses that were taken over from the function "Find e-mail addresses"?
These email addresses come from our external service provider hunter.io. Although these addresses are verified by the hunter.io validation tool, it can not be completely ruled out that there are no spam traps among the e-mail addresses. In this respect, the use of the function "Find e-mail addresses" is at your own risk.
4.) Maintenance of email lists
We recommend that you provide a certain care and hygiene of email lists intended for outreach. There are tools to keep these lists clean, such as kickbox.com.
